Flaxseed Lignans May Lower High Cholesterol in Men

A recent study performed by Iowa State’s Nutrition and Wellness Research Center Study discovered that 150 milligrams of flaxseed lignans a day can reduce cholesterol levels in men by about 10 percent. This study, performed over a three month period, shows that flaxseed lignans are a natural alternative to drugs like Lipitor. Since not everyone can take Lipitor and not all people want to deal with their side effects, flaxseed lignans offer a safe option for naturally lowering cholesterol. According to the article, which draws from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, around 17% of Americans have high cholesterol. This can lead to a buildup of plaque in the artery walls. This plaque can narrow, harden or block the arteries, resulting in chest pains, blood clots or even heart attacks. Combating the dangers of high cholesterol just may be as simple as adding flaxseed lignans to your diet.  Click here to learn more about the health benefits of lignans for men.
